LOCAL SIGHTSEEING

Higashi-Hennazaki

Higashi-Hennazaki, located at the easternmost point of Miyakojima, is designated as one of Japan’s 100 best ‘historic sites, places of scenic beauty and natural monuments’. It is a beautiful cape made of uplifted coral limestone that juts out into the emerald green sea for 2 kilometers. You can enjoy a superb panoramic ocean view of Miyakojima with an unobstructed view of almost 360 degrees. In addition, it is covered year round with the prefecture’s natural floral monument, “Ten-no-ume”, native plants translated as ‘sky plums’. It is also a highlight in early spring to see Easter Lillies in full bloom.

Yoshino-kaigan Beach

A 500-meter long, wide sandy beach near Higashi-Hennazaki. It is a popular beach for snorkeling, with crystal-clear waters, coral reefs that extend up to the coastline, and many colorful tropical fish.

Aragusuku Beach

Aragusuku Beach has shallow coral reef pools that are called ‘Ino’ by locals. This is a popular spot for snorkelling where you can see clown fish and other tropical fish. Since the water depth is shallow, even children and beginners can enjoy snorkeling without worry.

Boragawa (Boragā) Beach

A natural beach located near Higashi-Hennazaki and Boragawa (Boragā) Spring. Popular activities include snorkeling, where you can enjoy coral and tropical fish, beach-side pools with natural spring water, kayaking, hands-on diving tours and limestone cave exploration tours.
